we laugh at the clouds criss-crossing over our heads
saying that “x” marks the spot,
and that’s where the aliens pick up their
subjects to be probed.

as we walk closer to the chem-crux
i wish that i could control your mind
so we could stand here laughing forever.

sweet juice from a too ripe honeydew
drips down our cheeks
onto our chests
down our shirts
so bright colored fuzz sticks to our skin.

grass sneaks up my skirt and through the holes in your jeans
and the little bugs crawl up our legs
crawling behind our knees
sucking up sweet juice
to get slapped and leave little bright stains.

thunderstriken winds pull our hair around
leading us towards the filling puddles and asphalt brooks-
that will wash away blood, fuzz, juice-
and when the valleys become lakes
i suppose we’ll part ways.

we could be that legendary last stand.

a one night battle of tongues,

Japanese beetle-
see where you rest.
little legs running
between my head and my chest

yeah, skimpring across these planes
over small round hills, and dewey lanes
searching for a way to my heart

Japanese beetle-
your heart doesn’t dare
so when told of the true
you can’t tell that you care

tiny pincers to the skin underneath
but little beetle, i don’t mind if it’s you on me

close to his mind
little bugs
sing everything alive
the summer’s coming closer
and the fruits are getting ripe
Japanese beetle, land on me tonight

crawling under my skin
you broke into my heart
though I would have let you in
